L\u2019\u00aburban countrification\u00bb d\u00e9crit le recours grandissant \u00e0 des pratiques rurales dans l\u2019environnement urbain. La premi\u00e8re occurrence de cette forme de tendance date du d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 2000: le \u00abguerilla gardening\u00bb ou utilisant le jardinage comme moyen d&#8217;action environnementaliste, pour protester contre l\u2019ordre rigide. L\u2019\u00aburban farming\u00bb ou\u2013 privil\u00e9giant les jardins de toiture et cultures verticales \u00e0 des fins d\u2019auto-approvisionnement \u2013 a ensuite gagn\u00e9 en popularit\u00e9.
